This Refund and Return Policy outlines the terms and conditions under which refunds, cancellations, and returns are processed by Uva Institute of Business Management (UIBM), in compliance with applicable laws and regulations of Sri Lanka, including the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003 and general principles of contract law.


1. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to:

  • Course registrations and enrollments

  • Online programs, diplomas, certificates, and professional development courses

  • Payments made through online platforms, bank transfers, or authorized payment gateways


2. Course Enrollment and Fees

  • All course fees paid to UIBM are considered confirmation of enrollment.

  • Before completing payment, students are encouraged to carefully review course details, duration, delivery method, and eligibility requirements.

  • Once access to course materials, learning platforms, or academic resources has been granted, the service shall be deemed to have commenced.


3. Refund Eligibility

Refunds may be considered only under the following circumstances:

  • Duplicate Payment: If a student has made a duplicate or excess payment due to a technical or transactional error.

  • Course Cancellation by UIBM: If a course or program is cancelled by UIBM before commencement.

  • Non-Delivery of Service: If UIBM is unable to provide the enrolled course due to institutional or technical reasons.

Any approved refund will be processed after verification and deduction of applicable administrative or transaction charges, where permitted by law.


4. Non-Refundable Situations

Refunds will not be provided in the following cases:

  • Change of mind after registration or payment

  • Failure to attend classes, assessments, or online sessions

  • Inability to continue due to personal, professional, or financial reasons

  • Lack of internet access or technical issues on the student’s side

  • Partial completion of a course or program

  • Suspension or termination due to violation of institute rules or policies

Once course materials, LMS access, recorded lectures, or assessments are accessed, fees become strictly non-refundable.


5. Withdrawal and Course Transfer

  • Students may request to withdraw from a program by submitting a written request to the institute.

  • Course transfers or deferments may be considered at the discretion of UIBM, subject to administrative approval and applicable fees.

  • Withdrawal does not automatically entitle the student to a refund.


6. Digital Products and Online Content

In accordance with Sri Lankan law and international best practices:

  • Digital content, online learning materials, recorded lectures, and downloadable resources are non-returnable and non-refundable once access has been granted.


7. Refund Processing

  • Approved refunds will be processed using the original payment method where possible.

  • Refund processing may take 14–30 working days, depending on banking and payment gateway procedures.

  • Transaction charges, bank fees, or currency conversion costs are non-refundable.


8. Dispute Resolution

In the event of any dispute regarding refunds or returns:

  • Parties are encouraged to resolve the matter amicably through written communication.

  • If unresolved, the matter may be referred to the Consumer Affairs Authority of Sri Lanka or appropriate legal forums, in accordance with Sri Lankan law.


9. Policy Amendments

UIBM reserves the right to amend or update this Refund and Return Policy at any time. Any changes will be published on our website and will take effect immediately upon posting.
